Day 0

Flying to Havana

Commercial flights from the United States to Havana began December 1st, 2016 and are effectively replacing group charter flights as the standard mode of travel between the two countries. We now ask that our guests book their own travel between the U.S. and Havana.
If you are unable to fly all the way to Havana on Day 1 with an arrival before 11:00 AM, we recommend that you consider a "Day 0" for your tour and choose either of the following:

Travel to Havana on Day 0. With this option, we recommend that you overnight in a casa particular (a private home with rooms for rent) of your choosing and make your way back to the Havana Airport to meet your Tour Leader, guides, and fellow travelers the next morning.

Travel to Miami on Day 0. With this option, we recommend that you overnight in Miami and take a flight to Havana on the morning of Day 1.

We are happy to offer guidance with scheduling your travel to and from Cuba, and our office staff is ready to answer any questions you may have.

In addition to paddling its shallow waters, we’ll get the chance to stop for lunch on a small island and stretch our legs, and maybe even fit in some snorkelling. When our paddle is complete, we return to town and enjoy a guided walking tour of the city and some personal shopping and exploration time. Later we meet at the home of well-known photographer, Julio Munoz, who discusses Trinidad’s history and culture, life in Cuba today and his own fascinating story. There we’ll paddle past an abandoned navy base, a sunken sub and on to a bountiful seafood lunch. Following lunch, we shuttle a short distance to the city of Cienfuegos. Known as the Pearl of the South, it was settled by French and French Creoles who were invited there by the Spanish government in the 1800s. You’ll notice a French flair remains as we enjoy a late-afternoon walking tour. We’ll view the Creole architecture, among other things, as we stroll on the Prado, a vibrant boulevard that fills with people late into the evening. Dinner and then rest at local casas follow.

Supplementary Information

Rates for 2018/19 Season:

• $2990 (8-16 guests)
• $3590 (4-7 guests)
• $3790 (2-3 guests)
Prices below reflect our lowest tiered price.

Tiered Pricing Explained
Our trips are priced for full or near full registration and enables us to offer trips at the lowest possible cost. Because of numerous fixed expenses, it is more costly to operate a trip with a small group. Therefore, on some of our trips, in order to avoid having to cancel a trip, we have a “tier-pricing” system to avoid cancelling a trip with a low number of registrations. Most people also prefer this alternative to having a trip cancelled. Thus, you will note on our trip prices there may be different price for 4-7 people versus 8-16, etc. We may initially invoice you at the higher tier price, and refund the difference depending on the final group size.

Single Supplement: $500

Meals: None

Hotel Presidente Havana

Casas Particulares

We use Casas Particulares or guest houses on the portions of the trip outside of Havana. Visiting developing countries can be eye-opening and life-changing, and hopefully visiting Cuba is both. Accommodations may not be up to the standards you are used to. We ask all our guests to appreciate the authenticity of your cultural encounters as well as the people, food, culture, and adventures that are exceptional in their difference.

At this time we do not offer any extensions for this trip but please feel free to call us about added travel options at 1-800-677-0877. We have spent a lot of time in and around the destinations we offer and are more than happy to share our experience.
