Arrival Rome - Fiumicino

We begin our trip in the town of Fiumicino, an appealing overnight base for anyone flying in or out of Rome, since it sits just minutes from Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport. Despite its proximity to FCO, the town retains a relaxed, seaside character, with a working fishing harbor, fresh seafood restaurants, and a waterfront promenade that feels worlds away from airport hustle. Central Rome is easily reached from Fiumicino by train or car in roughly 30 to 45 minutes, making it entirely feasible to spend the day sightseeing among the city's landmarks and still return for a quiet night near the coast. This combination of convenience and charm lets travelers ease into or wind down from their Roman holiday without sacrificing access to the historic center.

Tuscany - Kayaking the Silver Coast of Monte Argentario

Your guides will meet you in the lobby of the Hotel Tiber in Fiumicino at 9 am. After a short briefing about the trip plan, we'll drive to our agriturismo accommodations at Case Cordovani in Magliano.  After a light lunch, we’ll head to our launch and launch our kayaks near the harbor of picturesque Porto Sant'Ercole and pass the imposing walls of Fortress Filippo, one of three fortresses built in the 16th century to guard the Port against pirates. Gliding through crystalline blue water along cliffs of Monte Argentario, we explore sea caves, including the stunning Grotta Azzura. After a swim, we celebrate the day with a farm-to-table dinner of Maremma cuisine in a local restaurant. Returning to our hilltop agriturismo, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, for a deserved rest in the quiet of the countryside.

Lago Bolsena - Pitigliano and Bolsena

After a one-hour drive, we arrived in the Medici town of Pitigliano and set out for an easy hike along an ancient sunken road to the site of a vast Etruscan necropolis. After lunch in Pitigliano, we'll continue to the lake of Bolsena, and we'll have our first taste of paddling the remarkably clear, clean waters of Italy's largest volcanic lake, formed around 300,000 years ago in the collapsed caldera of the ancient Vulsini volcano. Paddling the lake offers beautiful views of medieval hilltop towns, areas rich with birdlife, and volcanic rock formations. Then we will reach our accommodations in the village of Bolsena at a boutique hotel created from the restoration of an ancient mill dating back to the 1500s. After checking in, Dinner this evening is at a family-run restaurant specializing in locally caught, fresh lake fish, prepared with traditional recipes that offer an authentic taste of the area's culinary heritage, along with beautiful lake views.

Monte Catria - Le Marche - Senigallia

Our journey across Italy continues today with a two-and-a-half-hour drive to the crest of the Central Apennine mountains, at Monte Catria, which stands 1,702 meters above sea level. The mountain offers spectacular views across Central Italy, stretching from the Sibylline Mountains to Lake Trasimeno and the Adriatic Sea. Nearby, we'll visit the Monastero di Fonte Avellana, established around 980 by a group of hermits, and tour the restored complex, including the magnificent 13th-century scriptorium where monks copied manuscripts by the light of the sun, as well as a historic library founded in 1733 that contains over 10,000 volumes. After lunch at the monastery, a one-hour descent takes us from limestone peaks and mountain meadows to the verdant rolling valleys and foothills of the Marche region, to the azure and turquoise waters of the Adriatic, and to our seaside accommodation in the city of Senigallia. This evening, we'll celebrate the completion of our cross-country journey with a glass of chilled Verdicchio wine from Marche and enjoy a dinner at a trattoria on one of the narrow alleys of Senigallia's historic center.

Le Marche - Monte Conero - Portonovo

With our kayaks on board, we drive to the dramatic limestone promontory of Monte Conero, which rises 572m above the crystal-clear, turquoise waters of the Adriatic. Our paddling route follows the spectacular coastline of the Conero Riviera, passing the iconic limestone spires known as the Due Sorelle (Two Sisters). The clear, vividly hued waters contrast dramatically with the rugged, white limestone cliffs and deep, green Mediterranean forests above. As we paddle, hidden coves and pristine beaches beckon us to stop to swim and snorkel, while the tiny fishing village of Portonovo, fronted by one of Italy's most beautiful beaches, awaits us.
