EXPERIENCE
We have over 20 years of experience as a sea kayak expedition guide service, are leaders in sea kayaking instruction and enjoy an industry- wide reputation for safety, service and great food. We have guided thousands of paddlers on wilderness trips and are delighted that so many guests have become repeat clientele. Our trips are physically satisfying vacations that embody a spirit of adventure and are designed to be relaxing, safe, thought-provoking and fun.
WE'RE PURISTS
We fell in love with sea kayaking beginning in the late 1970's because like mountaineering it offered access to the wilderness beyond the reach of roads and trails. We don’t use motorized skiff support on any of our trips because we feel that most people, in part, go on kayaking trips to get away from internal combustion engines. To us it’s like supporting a climb or a backpacking trip with an All Terrain Vehicle. Would it be a bit easier? Probably. Would it radically alter the experience of wilderness? Absolutely. We do yacht based trips in Vietnam, The Galapagos and Croatia where running trips “expedition” style is not an option for environmental impact and/or cultural reasons.
OUR FOOD
Our guests tell us that the food is one of the best parts of Tofino Expeditions’ trips. Expedition mountaineering taught us early on the importance of food on wilderness trips and we pride ourselves in preparing high-quality meals from the freshest available ingredients available. We are committed to using organic ingredients whenever we can and support local food producers. The menu varies somewhat between areas of operation, but a day would typically include a substantial North American breakfast with freshly ground organic coffee, wholesome sandwiches and fresh salads for lunch, tried-and-true Mediterranean and other international favorites for supper as well as fresh baked goods almost every day. In Baja, we integrate local produce with organic ingredients we have brought from home. We are happy to accommodate most dietary restrictions with advance notice.
While on overseas trips we seek out authentic culinary experiences that illustrate the cuisine of the areas visited. For example; in Hanoi on our Vietnam Kayaking trip we go out for Cha Ca (pic), a fabulous fish dish prepared on a tabletop brazier, that is so unique it’s cited in Patricia Schultz’s, “1000 Places to See Before You Die” (Workman Press).
OUR COMMITMENT TO CONSERVATION
Tofino Expeditions has always been at the forefront of minimum impact camping technique and we have been formally recognized in both Mexico and Canada for our responsible expedition methods and management. We actively support a range of organizations that share our commitment to wilderness preservation including:
